The majestic eight hands speaks of her great strength and power possessed by her. Each of the eight hands carries a weapon to kill the demons. She often appears in action on lion in most of the images, icons or idols killing the demon Mahishasura with buffalo. Maa Durga though in action does not imparts violence or hatred but love, care and compassion for the ones dependent on her.

There are numerous stories spread among the masses about the arrival of Durga which revolves around her role of eradicating evil from earth.
