Maa Kali is the name of a Hindu goddess. She is one of the incarnation of Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva. In her Maa Kali avatar she is invincible, unstoppable and killing the demons with her weapons. In this brass sculpture she is seen putting her feet on the chest of Lord Shiva. The legend behind the posture goes as follows. Maa Kali once had killed all the demons (Raktabeej, the demon who was having a boon that his single drop of blood on ground will create hundreds of new Raktabeej - the demons) and began to dance out of joy of success. She was unstoppable in her form and even all the Gods were feared what she could do next. At the request of all the Gods, Lord Shiva requested her to calm down but no avail, then Lord Shiva decided to lie down like dead to absorb her destroying powers and save the Gods. When she stepped upon Shiva, she realized she was hurting her husband and came to a halt out of shame.
