Ardha-Narishvara - This brass sculpture shows Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati in a combined form. Simply put half male and half female representation of the God/Goddess. The representation has many religious meanings, yet it can be simply understood as – no one is complete without the other. The husband and wife are incomplete without each other, even if they are Gods. The Hindi word Ardha- Narishvara also means Half female and God/Male, hence the name. The right half of the statue is the male Shiva, and the left half is Goddess Parvati. The statue represents an inseparable blend of masculine and feminine powers that run this universe. It can be easily said that even Hindu religion firmly believes in the equal place for women, so much so that it gets a representation with the God in this form. It is one of those statues that people have bought for religious as well as personal reasons, one of them being firm believe in their spouse.
